Arts and Music in Schools

Arts and Music in Schools

While listening to Dr. Sandor Kovacs this morning, he said that he had studied at Starr King 20 years ago and had recently returned for a while.  Dr. Kovacs said the singers in chapel were better 20 years ago…and that he had asked his students, some of whom are in their 20’s what happened to the beautiful voices.  His students responded, “they stopped teaching music in the public schools.”

If we do not invest into art and music in our public education then we lose art and beauty in our world.  Are we ready to lose that beauty?  Every time we cut education budgets and cut those “unnecessary” subjects there is an impact.  Are we sure that we are using our fiduciary resources to invest well?  What is a “good investment” into our future?  Is beauty a good investment?
